Dr Katariina Kyrölä (University of Turku, Finland):
Feeling Through Media Images: Affect and Body Image as (Auto)Ethnographic Methodology
Dr. Katariina Kyrölä’s is Postdoctoral Researcher (Academy of Finland) at Media Studies, University of Turku. Kyrölä has also taught Cinema and Media Studies at Stockholm University in 2010–2013 and was Visiting Scholar at Macquarie University in Sydney in 2012. She is the author of The Weight of Images (2014, Ashgate, this debate is the book launch event!) and the co-editor of Koolla on väliä! (Size Matters! 2007, Like, with Hannele Harjunen). She has written several articles in English and Finnish on feminist media theory, embodiment, sexuality, and fat studies, and her postdoctoral research addresses the methodology of studying media ‘impact’ through the concept of body image.
